POS discount promotions that run between two dates
Set the discount once, with its first and last day, and the till applies it by itself on those days.
A shop runs a sale on some products for a few days. Someone forgets to change the price back, or types it in wrong, and the customer notices before the cashier does. With POS discount promotions, you set the discount once, with its first and last day. On those days the till takes it off by itself.
Set a discount on chosen products between two dates
A promotion takes a percentage or a fixed amount off the products you choose. You give it a start day and an end day, and both days are included. The discount stops after the end day, so nobody has to remember to change the price back.
For example, the owner runs a discount on a shelf of lamps for a few days. The lamps are on sale while the promotion runs, and the price goes back to normal after it ends.
The till applies the promotion when a product is scanned
When a cashier scans or adds one of the chosen products, the promotion applies by itself. The cashier does not type the discount in. It works offline.
Keep the larger discount on each line
A product can be on promotion and still get a manual discount. On each line, the till compares the promotion, the manual discount and any discount for the customer’s group. It uses the largest. If two are the same size, the promotion is kept. When a manual discount wins, the cart line says why.
For example, a customer asks for more off a lamp that is already on promotion. The owner types a manual discount, the till uses it because it is larger, and the line says why. The owner can explain it to the customer.
A promotion never goes below the minimum selling price
However large the percentage or amount off, a promotion never takes a product’s price below its minimum selling price. The price stops at that minimum, and the discount still applies up to it.
See the discount on the receipt, and on a return
The cart line names the promotion. The totals and the receipt show the discount it took off, and the sale records that discount. When one of those products comes back, the return gives back its share of the discount in proportion.
For example, a customer asks why a lamp costs less on the receipt than on the shelf. The cashier points to the promotion’s name on the receipt. Later the lamp is returned, and the share of the discount comes back with it.
Limit a promotion to new devices, or to some variants
A promotion can be limited to chosen device conditions. A promotion for new devices only never reaches a used device, so a used device of the same model keeps its full price. You can also add a single variant of a product to a promotion. See how a shop that sells phones tracks each device.
See which promotions are running, scheduled or ended
The Promotions page under Products lists each promotion with its discount, its days, the number of products it holds and its status. A status filter shows all promotions, or only the running, scheduled, draft or ended ones.
Shelf labels that show the promotion price
A promotion label shows the regular price struck out, the promotion price, the percentage off and the end date. It carries the product’s normal barcode. The price on the label is the one the counter charges.
Set one up in three steps
You enter the details, choose the products, then read the review. The review shows a summary and any clash. You can save the promotion as a draft, or activate it. Follow the steps to set up a discount promotion.

Questions people ask
How do I run a discount on some products for a week?
Give the promotion a name, a percentage or an amount off, and a start and end day. Then choose the products. The review shows a summary and any conflict, and you save the promotion as a draft or activate it. Activation is refused where a product already has a promotion on the same day. On those days the discount applies by itself when a cashier scans or adds one of the products, and it works offline. On each line, the larger of the promotion, a manual discount or a customer group discount is used, and a tie keeps the promotion. A promotion never takes a price below the product's minimum selling price. See discount promotions.
