Processing a return
Find the sale, tick the items coming back with a reason for each, and choose how the money goes back. Each refund is written down.
You can return some of the items from a sale, say why each one came back, and choose how the money goes back. You need the sale, in SellyPOS. A receipt number, the customer’s name or an item’s name is enough to find it.
For example, a customer keeps one of two bottles and brings back the other. You tick only the bottle that comes back.
Steps
- Find the sale. Before you type, the five most recent sales are listed. Type part of the receipt number, the customer’s name or an item’s name, and up to ten matching sales appear, best match first.
- Open the sale. Each sale in the list shows its number, time, customer, number of items, total and how it was paid. The sale’s lines show what can still be returned.
- Tick each line coming back. Press Space on the line. A list of reasons opens.
- Pick the reason the customer gave. The line counts only once it has a reason.
- Set how many come back. Use plus and minus to change the quantity.
- Use Select all to tick every line. It asks for a reason once, for all the lines together.
- Choose Refund or Exchange. Use the arrow keys to choose.
- If you chose Refund, choose how the money goes back. The choices are the way the sale was paid, cash, customer credit, and store credit where the sale has a customer. Each refund is written down with its method, amount, reason, the person who made it, and the time.
If something goes wrong
- The till does not let a refund to one method be more than that method took, less any earlier refunds.
- A refund above the amount your shop sets needs approval first, from someone who can give it.

Questions people ask
Can I edit a sale after it is finished?
No, and that is deliberate. A finished sale stays exactly as it was. To correct it, make a return or an exchange against it: SellyPOS links the two, so your records show what happened and when.
